Steelers place Wilson on IR with finger injury
The Pittsburgh Steelers placed Roman Wilson on the injured reserve list, their second key receiver lost to injury in as many weeks.
Roman Wilson — Injured Reserve
Wilson already had been ruled out for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, but the move to IR means that the third-year pro will be required to miss at least four games. Since the Steelers are on a bye for Week 9, the earliest that Wilson can return is Week 11 against the Eagles on Sunday, Nov. 22. He joins Michael Pittman (foot) on injured reserve, which leaves rookie second-rounder Germie Bernard as the Steelers' WR2 behind DK Metcalf for the next few weeks.
Roman Wilson — Out
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported earlier Monday that Wilson is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks due to a finger injury that he sustained during the Steelers' 34-22 win over the Colts on Sunday, so the third-year receiver's absence could extend into Week 7. While the Steelers are without Wilson, Ben Skowronek (leg) and Michael Pittman (foot) for at least Sunday's game at Tampa Bay, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is left with wideouts DK Metcalf, rookie Germie Bernard, running back Jaylen Warren and tight ends Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth as his main targets in the passing game.
Roman Wilson — Doubtful
Wilson is still gathering more information about his injury and is seeking a second opinion, so an official timeline for his recovery may not be determined until he decides on a treatment plan. The third-year wideout out of Michigan logged 20 snaps and was unable to haul in his lone target in Sunday's game before leaving the contest just before halftime. After previously moving Michael Pittman (foot) to injured reserve Saturday, Pittsburgh's receiver depth will be further tested with Wilson likely to be sidelined for at least the team's Week 6 game at Tampa Bay.
Roman Wilson — Questionable
With Pittsburgh moving Michael Pittman (foot) to injured reserve Saturday, Wilson appeared headed for a larger role in the receiving corps. Unfortunately for the third-year wideout out of Michigan, he was unable to capitalize in Week 5, as he failed to haul in his lone target before exiting the game late in the second quarter. With Ben Skowronek (leg) also ruled out for the second half, the Steelers will be left with DK Metcalf, Germie Bernard, Kaden Wetjen and Brandon Smith as their available options at receiver.
Roman Wilson — Out
On a play that initially was an 11-yard catch on the field but overturned following review, Wilson appeared to suffer the injury. Its nature isn't known, but Germie Bernard, Kaden Wetjen and Brandon Smith could be in line for WR reps after halftime behind DK Metcalf if Wilson isn't able to return.
Roman Wilson — Active
Wilson capped off a marathon 17-play opening drive for the Steelers by showcasing his speed, as the second-year wideout scored from 12 yards out on a shovel pass from Aaron Rodgers. Wilson has at least three catches in each of his first four games, and Thursday's yardage total established a new season high after he'd also done so with his 60-yard tally in Week 3. Wilson also has exactly six targets in each contest thus far, cementing him as a key complementary component of the air attack heading into a Week 5 home matchup against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Roman Wilson — Active
Wilson came out of the gates hot Sunday, securing a 38-yard touchdown from quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the team's opening drive of the game. The wide receiver led the team in targets in Week 3, and he has now registered exactly six targets in each of the team's first three contests this season. Wilson has reeled in 11 of 18 targets for 114 yards and a touchdown so far this year.
