Record-setting deal? Trade? A look at Lamar Jackson's cloudy future with Ravens
It's possible that Jackson's final snap with the Ravens ended with injury Sunday night.
Sizing up wild NFL Week 8: Lamar Jackson's injury, Bucs' win, Cowboys' collapse
Lamar Jackson's return lasted one snap, the Cardinals upset the Cowboys with their QB2 and RB2, and the Buccaneers won by 16 despite 0 passing yards.
Lamar Jackson — Out
According to Wacker, Minter added that Jackson's injury could be season-ending, with a more definitive timeline likely to be provided once surgery is completed. The injury is another tough break for Jackson, who had missed the previous three contests due to a left high-ankle sprain before departing after playing just one snap in Sunday's loss. With backup Tyler Huntley (toe) also exiting the loss to the Bills with an injury, Baltimore's quarterback situation is in flux heading into a Thursday night matchup with the Jaguars. Third-string quarterback Joe Fagnano finished up Sunday's contest, though he admitted afterward that he was playing in some pain after taking a hit to his knee during the game.
Inside the complicated injury history of Ravens' Lamar Jackson
If the QB's health record has taught the football world anything, his timeline to return can be challenging.
Ravens' Lamar Jackson out for game with thumb injury suffered on 1st play
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Bills with a right thumb injury.
Lamar Jackson — Out
After previously being deemed questionable to return, Jackson has now been confirmed to be unavailable for the rest of the contest. In his absence, Tyler Huntley has taken over the Ravens' QB duties versus Buffalo. Prior to his first-quarter exit, Jackson didn't complete his only passing attempt.
Lamar Jackson — Active
This outcome was likely once the Ravens listed Jackson as a full practice participant Wednesday and Thursday. It's possible he won't be at his best as a runner after missing three games with a high-ankle sprain, although he told reporters Friday that lingering pain in the ankle shouldn't impact his movement.
Lamar Jackson — Active
Jackson seems on track to return to action for Sunday's game at Buffalo after logging back-to-back uncapped sessions to begin Week 8 prep. Ultimately, Friday's injury report will reveal if he's tagged with a designation for that matchup, but the quarterback is seeking his first game action since Week 4, when he initially suffered a left high-ankle sprain.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Ravens head coach Jesse Minter has yet to officially confirm that Jackson will put an end to his three-game absence and start Week 8, but all signs are pointing toward the two-time MVP playing in Buffalo. After returning to practice last week as a limited participant, Jackson practiced as a full participant Wednesday for the first time since sustaining a left high-ankle sprain during an Oct. 4 win over the Titans. Assuming all goes well for Jackson in practices Thursday and Friday, he should head into the weekend without an injury designation.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Jackson, who hasn't played since Week 4, was able to practice in a limited fashion last week, so his upgrade to full participation Wednesday is a significant development ahead of Sunday's game against the Bills. Assuming he's able to maintain that level of activity Thursday and Friday, Jackson has a chance to approach Week 8 action minus an injury designation.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Jackson hasn't played since Week 4, but he was able to practice in a limited fashion throughout last week. While it won't be known until the Ravens release their first Week 8 injury report later Wednesday whether Jackson was able to upgrade to full participation, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Tuesday that the quarterback is "believed to be close to 100 percent" and is tracking toward playing Sunday in Buffalo. During the open portion of Wednesday's session, Jackson seemed to be moving around better than he was a week ago, though he was still doing some light running with his sprained left ankle taped up, per Hensley.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
After missing the Ravens' last three games with what he has described as a left high-ankle sprain, Jackson seems to have responded well to taking part in practices last week and looks to be moving toward a return to the lineup this Sunday. The Ravens will presumably prepare for Jackson to take on more reps in practices Wednesday through Friday, and if all goes well, he could head into the weekend without a designation. In Jackson's absence, Tyler Huntley has started each of the last three contests and has guided Baltimore to a 1-2 record while completing 68 percent of his passes for 6.8 yards per attempt and accounting for five touchdowns.
Ravens' Jesse Minter optimistic QB Lamar Jackson can return vs. Bills
Ravens coach Jesse Minter expressed optimism Monday that quarterback Lamar Jackson could be available for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
The coach's comments don't provide much in the way of new insight into the status of Jackson, who has sat out the Ravens' last three games due to what the quarterback has labeled as a left high-ankle sprain. Minter has classified Jackson as day-to-day ahead of the Ravens' past two games, only for the two-time MVP to be ruled out from playing at least a day in advance of both contests. Jackson was at least able to take a notable step forward in his recovery last week by practicing on a limited basis Wednesday through Friday, so if the signal-caller is able to maintain that level of activity or take on more reps during Week 8 prep, he should have a good chance at returning to action. The Ravens have gone 1-2 and have averaged 17.7 points per game while Tyler Huntley has started in place of Jackson.
Lamar Jackson — Out
Tyler Huntley will start a third consecutive game while Jackson remains sidelined due to a left ankle sprain. Though Jackson has taken longer than initially anticipated to make a full recovery from the injury, he took some clear steps forward in Week 7 by practicing as a limited participant Wednesday through Friday. So long as Jackson can maintain that level of activity or upgrade to full at any point during Week 8 prep, he should get the green light to return to the lineup in Buffalo.
Lamar Jackson — Out
Jackson drew the questionable tag for Sunday's AFC North tilt after being a limited practice participant all week, but the superstar quarterback will end up missing a third consecutive game due to a high-ankle sprain. As a result, Tyler Huntley will once again start under center for the Ravens, and Jackson's next opportunity to play is Week 8 against the Bills on Sunday, Nov. 1.
Ravens' Lamar Jackson (high ankle sprain) unsure if he'll play
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said he's dealing with a high ankle sprain and is unsure if he'll play this week against the Bengals, but is "heading in the right direction" after missing the past two games.
Lamar Jackson 'heading in the right direction' but unsure of return
Lamar Jackson 'heading in the right direction' but unsure of return
Lamar Jackson — Out
The Ravens listed Jackson as a limited participant all week, with the QB telling reporters Friday that he's "heading in the right direction," per Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. Jackson clarified that his injury is a high-ankle sprain, and while the swelling has subsided, he's still dealing with considerable pain that may limit his mobility. He suggested that a decision won't be made until Saturday or Sunday, at which point the Ravens may try to keep it under wraps until inactive lists are released at 11:30 a.m. ET on Sunday. If Jackson is out again, Tyler Huntley will make his third straight start.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
With Jackson back on the practice field Friday and Minter noting that he got a "pretty good amount of work in," Baltimore is at least leaving the door open for its star quarterback to return. Minter added that the decision will hinge on how Jackson feels and how effective he can be, so this could come down to a game-time decision ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
After logging limited practice participation Wednesday and Thursday, Jackson's participation again Friday gives him a chance to return Sunday against Cincinnati. With the Ravens installed as 1.5-point favorites over the division-rival Bengals, oddsmakers seem to believe Jackson will play Week 7.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Jackson joined his teammates for the start of practice Thursday but didn't go through the entire session without limitations, resulting in a second consecutive limited listing. He'll have one more chance Friday to upgrade to full participation as Jackson tries to limit his absence to two games. If Jackson sits out Sunday against the Bengals, Tyler Huntley would make a third consecutive start.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Jackson was listed as a limited participant Wednesday, but he was notably absent from the portion of practice open to the media. The star QB is present during the media-access portion Thursday, but it remains to be seen if Jackson has progressed to full participation. Jackson missed Baltimore's previous two games, during which Tyler Huntley posted a 1-1 record while filling in under center.
Ravens' Lamar Jackson returns to practice but status remains unclear vs. Bengals
After practice, Jackson was favoring his injured left ankle, walking into the team facility with a noticeable limp.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Earlier Wednesday, head coach Jesse Minter told Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site that Jackson was able to get in some "limited" work, and the team's first practice report of Week 7 confirmed as much. The limited session marked Jackson's first practice participation since sustaining a left ankle sprain in a Week 4 win over the Titans. Encouraging though it may be that Jackson was back on the field Wednesday, a decision has yet to be made regarding whether he'll be available this Sunday against the Bengals. Jackson's practice participation in the next two days will likely go a long way toward determining his status.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Per Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore, Jackson appeared to be walking with a limp Wednesday and didn't seem to be dressed for practice as if he participated, but the two-time MVP was apparently able to mix into drills on some level. Though backup Tyler Huntley presumably still took at least some reps with the first-team offense in case he's needed to make a third consecutive start Sunday versus the Bengals, Jackson could be ready to make his return to the lineup if his ankle responds well to on-field work over the next couple of days.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Head coach Jesse Minter told Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site Monday that Jackson may "potentially" take part in Week 7 practices, but the quarterback instead will continue to sit out drills, as he's done since Oct. 4. A lingering left ankle sprain is to blame for Jackson's absence, but he at least has two more chances to get back on the field this week. For as long as Jackson is sidelined, though, Tyler Huntley will direct Baltimore's offense.
Lamar Jackson — Out
Since spraining his left ankle in an Oct. 4 win over the Titans, Jackson hasn't practiced in any fashion and has been inactive for both of the Ravens' ensuing games. Though Jackson hasn't taken any steps forward in terms of practice activity, Minter noted that the two-time NFL MVP is making progress in his recovery from the ankle injury. The Ravens will hold their first Week 7 practice Wednesday, and if Jackson is on the field in some capacity, it would be a good sign for his chances of returning to action Sunday versus the Bengals.
Lamar Jackson — Out
Considering Jackson hasn't practiced since spraining his left ankle in the middle of the Ravens' Week 4 win at Tennessee, it comes as no surprise that Minter again made the decision to keep the team's No. 1 QB on the sideline Sunday. With Jackson in street clothes this weekend, Baltimore will continue to roll with Tyler Huntley leading the offense. Jackson's next chance to play is Sunday, Oct. 25 against the Bengals.
Lamar Jackson — Out
Jackson still hasn't practiced since injuring his ankle in Week 4 against the Titans. Ravens head coach Jesse Minter has said that Jackson doesn't necessarily need to practice in order to play, but it's still not a good sign to miss another practice. Tyler Huntley will make his second start of the year if Jackson isn't ready.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Jackson wasn't spotted by reporters earlier in the day, and Baltimore's injury report confirms his second absence in as many days to begin Week 6 prep. The Ravens haven't given up hope regarding their starting QB returning for Sunday's pivotal game in Cleveland, but it would take a return to practice in some capacity from Jackson to provide real optimism regarding his status. Tyler Huntley would make a second consecutive start should Jackson sit out Sunday.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Head coach Jesse Minter has stated that Jackson doesn't necessarily need to practice in order to take the field Sunday against the Browns, but a return to practice in any capacity Friday certainly wouldn't hurt considering Jackson hasn't practiced or played since the first half of Baltimore's Week 4 win over the Titans. Tyler Huntley finished out that victory and guided the Ravens to an overtime win over the Falcons in Week 5. Huntley would make a second consecutive start in Sunday's clash between AFC North rivals if Jackson is ultimately unable to play.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Jackson was sidelined for a fourth consecutive practice after his sprained left ankle kept him from logging any on-field reps in Week 5 before he was ruled out ahead of the Ravens' eventual 30-23 overtime win over the Falcons last Sunday. Per Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com, head coach Jesse Minter said after Wednesday's session that Jackson is considered day-to-day, and the Ravens aren't yet ruling him out from starting this Sunday against the Browns. If Jackson ends up missing another game, Tyler Huntley would direct the Baltimore offense for a second straight week.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
Jackson missed the Ravens' Week 5 win in Atlanta due to a left ankle injury suffered one week prior, and while head coach Jesse Minter told Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com on Monday that the quarterback is "definitely doing better," his potential lack of activity to begin Week 6 prep isn't a great sign. Wednesday's practice report will unveal whether or not Jackson was able to mix into drills.
What Lamar's potential return means for Ravens' season
What Lamar's potential return means for Ravens' season
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
It was reported Sunday that Jackson had "a real chance" to return in Week 6, and he appears to be in the same spot several days later. Jackson's involvement in practice -- or lack thereof -- before the end of the week ultimately figures to determine whether or not he will be back under center against the Browns.
Lamar Jackson — Out
Jackson was held out of Sunday's 30-23 overtime win over the Falcons due to a left ankle sprain that he sustained during the Ravens' Week 4 win over the Titans. Minter added that he wasn't sure whether Jackson would be cleared to practice Wednesday, and the superstar quarterback's participation during Week 6 prep ultimately will determine whether he or Tyler Huntley starts against the Browns on Oct. 18.
Lamar Jackson — Out
Jackson didn't practice in any fashion this week after he was sidelined for the entire second half of last Sunday's win over the Titans, but the Ravens remain optimistic that his ankle injury is a short-term concern. Though Tyler Huntley will get the starting nod in place of Jackson against Atlanta, Rapoport notes that the Ravens' franchise quarterback has been "in the building early working crazy to get himself back on the field" this week. Assuming the rehab work Jackson has put in translates into him returning to practice at some point next week, he should be able to meet his goal of playing after a one-game absence.
Lamar Jackson — Out
After Jackson didn't practice all week, this comes as no surprise. Tyler Huntley is expected to get the start in Jackson's place after he handled first-team reps in practice this week. It's a green-light spot for the Falcons defense in fantasy.
Lamar Jackson — Questionable
With Jackson absent from practice all week, he'll likely be ruled out for Sunday's game against the Falcons. While Jackson could play without practicing, all signs continue to point to Tyler Huntley making the Week 5 start. Atlanta's defense has been wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks and would be a unit to stream at home this week against the backup quarterback if Jackson is ultimately ruled out.

ESPN Injury Report ↗Lamar Jackson — Out
After Jackson didn't practice all week, this comes as no surprise. Tyler Huntley is expected to get the start in Jackson's place after he handled first-team reps in practice this week. It's a green-light spot for the Falcons defense in fantasy.
ESPN Injury Report ↗Lamar Jackson — Questionable
With Jackson absent from practice all week, he'll likely be ruled out for Sunday's game against the Falcons. While Jackson could play without practicing, all signs continue to point to Tyler Huntley making the Week 5 start. Atlanta's defense has been wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks and would be a unit to stream at home this week against the backup quarterback if Jackson is ultimately ruled out.
