Injury & Status History
A running log of this player's status changes — each entry links to the original source.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Questionable
Jones aggravated an existing knee injury this past Sunday against the Colts, and while it isn't deemed to be serious, the running back is considered day-to-day, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. After sitting out Wednesday's session, Jones will have two more chances to mix into drills this week before the Vikings potentially make a ruling on his status for Sunday's game at Detroit. Jordan Mason stands to benefit if Jones is at anything less than 100 percent this weekend.
Vikings RB Jones avoids serious knee injury, day-to-day
Vikings running back Aaron Jones Sr. avoided a serious knee injury Sunday and is considered day-to-day, coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed Monday.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Questionable
Jordan Mason (thumb) returned from injured reserve and stepped back in as the Vikings' lead ball carrier while Jones shifted into a change-of-pace role. Jones carried eight times for 26 yards and added one reception for no gain across 15 snaps before exiting with 12:22 remaining in the fourth quarter. After the game, head coach Kevin O'Connell acknowledged that Jones experienced an aggravation of the MCL sprain he previously sustained in Week 2. Jones was able to return to action the following week, but the results of an MRI on Monday will help determine whether he can avoid an absence during the Vikings' Week 8 game in Detroit.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Questionable
Jones exited in the fourth quarter of Week 7 action, and while he was considered questionable to return, he remained on the sideline. He missed time in two prior contests this season due to a knee issue but has been able to suit up for all seven contests. Jones and the Vikings next take the field Sunday, Nov. 1, in Detroit, so his status will be monitored to see if he's in danger of an absence. Fellow RB Jordan Mason (thumb) returned from IR on Sunday, turning 15 carries into 68 yards.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Questionable
Jones went to the blue medical tent immediately following his 17-yar run in the third quarter. While he's on the sidelines being evaluated, Jordan Mason and DeeJay Dallas are both in line for additional snaps on offense.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Active
After logging a modest 12 touches in Minnesota's season-opening win over Green Bay, Jones has taken on a massive workload in Mason's absence. From Week 2 to 5, Jones averaged 21.3 carries and 3.0 receptions per contest, logging 442 total yards and a touchdown during that span. However, Mason would almost certainly cut into that workload if he's active Sunday given that he carried 15 times for 59 yards and a TD in his lone appearance this season Week 1. Fantasy managers shouldn't have to wait until Sunday to get a better read on the situation, as Mason -- who is still on IR -- will need to be activated Saturday in order to be eligible to play against the Colts on Sunday.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Active
Jones continued handling the workhorse role in Minnesota's backfield, and he finished Sunday's contest with a new season high in carries despite exiting the game for a spell due to a leg issue. Jones added his second rushing touchdown of the season on an eight-yard run early in the fourth quarter, while the 100-yard effort was his second of the campaign. Sunday marked Jones' backfield mate Jordan Mason's fourth absence while on injured reserve due to a thumb injury, and it remains to be seen if the latter will be ready to suit up and put a dent in Jones' opportunities during a Week 7 home matchup against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 25, following a Week 6 bye.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Active
Jones spent some time out of the Vikings' Week 5 matchup in the first half due to a left knee injury, but he seemingly will attempt to play through the pain Sunday. If Jones needs to cede any reps to the rest of the team's backfield, DeeJay Dallas and rookie Demond Claiborne are on hand to spell the veteran.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Questionable
Jones came up limping after a lost fumble in the red zone late in the first quarter and went to the medical tent before the Vikings deemed him questionable to return. DeeJay Dallas likely will take on No. 1 RB duties for as long as Jones is sidelined, with rookie Demond Claiborne also on hand for reps out of Minnesota's backfield.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Active
The Vikings' offense failed to produce a touchdown, but Jones got them into regular field-goal position as he set a new season high in scrimmage yards. The veteran RB has held up under a bell-cow workload while Jordan Mason (thumb) has been sidelined, averaging 23.0 touches over the last three weeks while still producing 4.3 yards per carry. Jones hasn't gotten into the end zone during that stretch, however, something he'll try to rectify in a Week 5 road trip to New Orleans.
Aaron Jones Sr. — Active
After dealing with a knee injury during Week 3 prep, Jones continued to lead the Vikings backfield Sunday with Jordan Mason (thumb) on injured reserve. With the help of his first catches of the season, Jones surpassed 20 touches for a second game in a row, a span in which he's turned 45 touches into 197 yards from scrimmage. Meanwhile, reserve RBs DeeJay Dallas and Demond Claiborne combined for four touches this weekend. Jones may operate with some practice restrictions during Week 4 prep but should remain Minnesota's No. 1 back next Sunday against the Dolphins, assuming he again is available.
